This 6-day CDMX Street Photography workshop takes place from 10-15 December and is led by local photographer Sandra Hernandez (@vitaflumen; the first 8 pictures on the left are by Sandra). This workshop is open to a maximum of 6 participants.

About the workshop

This six-day intensive workshop explores Mexico City during one of its most powerful moments of collective expression: the days surrounding Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12) and the city’s gradual shift into the Christmas season. The workshop approaches this period from a documentary perspective — focusing on devotion, migration, exhaustion, informal economies, ritual, and the transformation of urban space. Participants will build layered visual narratives rather than isolated images. The structure combines field practice, guided assignments, and in-depth editing sessions.

We begin by immersing ourselves in the historical and social meaning of the Guadalupe tradition, before heading out for a first photowalk in a central neighborhood—an opportunity to tune your eye and approach. From there, we follow the flow of pilgrims moving toward the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, photographing along key routes as anticipation builds. As the days progress, we work through shifting rhythms: from pilgrims arriving and settling into temporary camps, to the intensity of nightfall and the unique atmosphere created by light, devotion, and movement.

At the peak of the celebration, we photograph from pre-dawn into the day itself, capturing rituals, masses, and the surrounding street life. The focus is not just on spectacle, but on building a layered, personal narrative within a complex environment.

In the second half of the workshop, we shift toward developing individual visual essays. We explore neighborhoods such as Coyoacán, known for its intimate streets, markets, and strong local identity, as well as the evolving Christmas atmosphere across the city’s markets and public spaces.

Throughout the workshop, shooting is combined with in-depth review and editing sessions, helping you shape a coherent body of work. You’ll receive continuous one-on-one guidance on the street, supporting you in making stronger images and building a meaningful photographic story.
