The London Street Photography workshop, led by Giedo van der Zwan will take place from 27-31 August. A maximum of 6 people can participate.

About the workshop

London is one of Europe’s most rewarding cities for street photography. The city's many distinctive neighborhoods are almost like villages that gradually grew together. Each area has its own atmosphere, architecture, and rhythm of life, creating endless photographic opportunities.

During this five-day workshop Giedo van der Zwan will guide you through a selection of London’s best locations. As a regular visitor of Great Britain's capital, Giedo knows where and when to go in this amazing city: From chaotic shopping streets and historic squares to financial districts, colorful markets, and creative neighborhoods, every location offers a different perspective on life in the city.

During the first three days we will explore several of London’s most photogenic neighborhoods, choosing locations depending on light, energy, and opportunities we encounter:

The Oxford Street area, Europe’s busiest shopping street, is perfect for candid street photography, creating opportunities to work with layers, gestures, and spontaneous interactions.

Obviously, we'll spend plenty of time in Soho, one of the most lively areas of London. We will explore the streets around Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, and Chinatown which are full of performers, nightlife, and constant pedestrian activity.

A great contrast, but also very interesting for street photography is the City of London area, with a mix of glass skyscrapers, historic streets, and streams of commuters around Liverpool Street Station that create many opportunities for us.

Shoreditch is another great area with a very different character that we like to capture. It is a creative district filled with street art, old brick warehouses, graffiti murals, and an artistic atmosphere. A bit more gritty yet trendy environment makes it a favorite among street photographers.

We also may explore Brick Lane, known for its Bangladeshi culture, vibrant street life, and busy markets, and the South Bank, a lively stretch along the River Thames where tourists, performers, and locals gather near landmarks like the London Eye and Tate Modern.... London is so vast and diverse that there is always an interesting area that we can choose from!

In the last two days of the workshop, we focus on an amazing event, the Caribbean Carnival, also known as Notting Hill Carnival.

This festival transforms the streets of West London into an explosion of music, dance, and colorful parades. We will spend significant time photographing the carnival itself, and its visitors, capturing both the spectacular scale of the event and the more intimate moments happening around it.
